Tohoku Electric Power is to acquire 10% stake in Korea Electric Power (Kepco) and 1,200MW Nghi Son 2 coal-fired power plant in Vietnam. The acquisition is subject to approval of the government of Vietnam.
The project is the first large-scale, coal-fired power plant being developed by foreign investors in Vietnam to have investment license in the country.
The project is owned by Kepco and Marubeni following an international tender in 2013. The loans amounting to USD 2.5 billion were signed in April 2018 after years of delay.
