Senvion signs Partnership Agreement for 420-MW Murra Warra wind farm in Australia

Senvion, a global manufacturer of wind turbines, has signed a Delivery Partnership Agreement with RES Australia and its project partners for the 116-turbine Murra Warra wind farm in Victoria in a consortium with Downer.

The Delivery Partnership Agreement is for the early works which are currently underway and is a precursor to financial close of the project. The wind farm will feature the 3.7M144 turbine type, which is being designed for this project. This product extension is currently being developed and added to the Senvion portfolio for other projects.

The site is approximately 25km due north of Horsham on land between the Henty Highway and the Blue Ribbon Road to the east of the crossroads at Murra Warra. When fully constructed the wind farm will provide up to 420 MW of generation capacity into the Victorian network, and will produce enough electricity to power the equivalent of up to 250,000 Victorian households and save over 1.3 million tonnes of greenhouse gasses per year.

It is expected that construction of the AUD650 million (US$490 million) project will take approximately 2 years to complete and will create employment opportunities for up to 610 people (direct and indirect jobs) during construction and up to 15 people once the facility is operational.

The wind farm will also deliver a community fund, with AUD1000 per turbine provided to support community projects in the local area every year for the life of the project. This will amount to between AUD2.5 and AUD3 million.

Jürgen Geissinger, CEO of Senvion, said:

“We are very pleased to be collaborating with RES and its project partners on this significant project. This agreement demonstrates that our commitment to deliver optimised products for all wind conditions is highly effective and helps to consolidate Senvion’s strong market position in Australia. It also showcases the confidence of strategic partners in our products.”

Roger Seshan, Strategic Procurement Director of RES, said:

“We are delighted to build on our European relationship with Senvion. RES’s global experience and relationships allows us to combine the best elements from our respective markets to deliver our projects. We look forward to continuing to develop our relationship in the Australian market with the Murra Warra wind farm.”
