Scotland Approves 2GW Caledonia Offshore Wind Projects

The Scottish Government has granted consents and marine licences to Ocean Winds for the Caledonia North and Caledonia South offshore wind farms in the Moray Firth, off the northeast coast of Scotland, paving the way for the development of a 2 GW offshore wind project. 

The Caledonia North and Caledonia South offshore wind farms, spanning approximately 429 sq km and featuring up to 140 wind turbines, have secured planning consent and marine licences from the Scottish Government. As part of the development, the Caledonia South project will deploy a combination of fixed-bottom and floating foundation technologies, reinforcing Scotland's position as a global leader in floating offshore wind.

Caledonia North is a fixed-bottom offshore wind farm located in the outer Moray Firth, approximately 28km from the Wick coastline and 48km from the Banff coastline, with an anticipated generating capacity of 1 gigawatt, produced by up to 77 offshore Wind Turbine Generators. Caledonia South is a 1 GW offshore wind farm planned for the outer Moray Firth, situated around 45 km off the coast of Wick and 35 km from Banff. The project will combine fixed-bottom and floating wind turbine technologies, with up to 78 wind turbine generators, including a maximum of 39 floating turbines. Together with the adjacent Caledonia North project, the two developments will comprise no more than 140 wind turbine generators in total.
