Scatec ASA and its partners have acquired government authorization to investigate the possibility of temporarily procuring electricity from the grid for a green hydrogen plant to be built in Egypt.
Scatec and its partners, local construction business Orascom and The Sovereign Fund of Egypt (TSFE), submitted a proposal to the Egyptian Cabinet to expedite the project's development ahead of the COP 27 meeting, which will take place in the Arab country in November 2022.
The partners intend to use grid electricity solely in the early stages of the project until they can establish their own renewable energy capacity. Their green power plant will flow into the grid as soon as it is operational.
