Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has revealed 16 prequalified bidders for a 500 MW solar PV project near Al Kharsaa around 80km west of Doha.
The 16 prequalified lead developers are Enel Green Power, ENGIE, GCL New Energy, Hanwha Energy, Innogy, Itochu, Jinko Solar, Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), Marubeni, Mitsubishi, Mitsui & Co, Power Construction Corporation of China, Total Solar, Sojitz, X-Elio Energy and Zorlu Enerji Elektrik Uretim.
The RFQ for the project was issued in May 2018, with submissions due 24 June.
The 500 MW solar project will be 60% owned by Qatari investors. The successful bidder will own the remaining 40%.
Commercial operations of the plant are expected to start in December 2020. Kahramaa will offtake power from the project under a 25-year PPA with payments consisting of a fixed and a variable charge.
Kahramaa is being advised on the tender by Ernst & Young (financial), DLA Piper (legal) and Pöyry (technical).
