Phase one of 50 MW hydropower project in Georgia begins operation

Georgia Capital PLC has commissioned the 30 MW first phase of the planned 50 MW Mestiachala hydropower project in Georgia’s Svaneti region. Official opening of the Mestiachala HPP will be on June 28, 2019.

The second phase with a 20 MW capacity is scheduled to be launched in June 2019.

The facility is expected to generate around 171 GWh of electricity per year.

The plant is estimated at a cost of US$1.2 million per MW. Local and international financial institutions have financed 70% of the total amount through debt facilities.
