Danish energy firm Ørsted A/S has commissioned a 16.8-MW wind farm near the town of St. Wendel in western Germany. The facility, located south of the L131 between Niederlinxweiler and Dörrenbach consists of three Vestas V162 wind turbines, generating enough electricity to supply about 11,500 households. Therefore, the wind park is expected to prevent 23,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
The wind farm was built on municipal land owned by St. Wendel. As a result, the town will receive regular lease payments and local business tax revenues. In addition, St. Wendel, together with the neighboring municipality of Ottweiler, will be paid an annual municipal bonus under Germany’s Renewable Energy Act of EUR 0.002 per kWh fed into the grid, amounting to around EUR 60,000 annually. Construction faced challenges due to difficult terrain and heavy rainfall in spring 2024, which caused an 11-week delay. Adjusted logistics and repairs to forest tracks helped the project return to schedule by summer 2024.
