Operations started at 26.6 MW Solar project in Burkina Faso

Amea Power has announced the commissioning of the 26.6 MW Zina solar plant located 185 km from the capital city Ouagadougou, in the village of Zina in the Mouhoun Province, Burkina Faso.

The project was initiated in 2009 as part of a public-private partnership between Burkina Faso's government and Canadian mining company Semafo, to supply electricity to the Mana gold mine and was financed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the IFC-Canada Climate Change Program, and the Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund. The plant will be operated under a 25-year electricity purchase contract with the national utility company, SONABEL.

The solar farm is connected to the national grid via a 7.8 km transmission line and generates enough power to meet the annual consumption of more than 43,000 people and offsets 13,200 tonnes of CO2 per year.
