UK energy regulator Ofgem has published a notice under Section 8A of the UK Electricity Act 1989 on September 28, 2021, relating to the development of the Rampion Offshore Transmission project (OFTO). This notice is a key step towards reaching a financial close on the investment in the project.
International Public Partnerships Limited (INPP), the project developer, is expected to invest GBP40 million (US$54.3 million) into the project upon financial close, expected to be in November 2021. The project involves the development of a transmission link for the Rampion offshore wind farm located 13km off the Sussex coast. The farm consists of 116 x 3.45 MW wind turbine generators with an installed capacity of 400 MW connected to the offshore substation platforms (OSP) situated within the boundaries of the Rampion wind farm.
The Rampion OFTO will transmit electricity equivalent to around 350,000 UK homes, increasing the number of homes that are powered by INPP's OFTO portfolio to approximately 2.1 million homes.
