NEC Energy Solutions, a unit of NEC Corporation, has been awarded the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the construction of two energy storage projects in Northern Ireland with a combined capacity of 100 MW.
The projects involved are the energy storage facilities located in Mullavilly, County Armagh and Drumkee, County Tyrone, each with a capacity of 50 MW. NEC will also provide operations and maintenance services under a 15-year contract.
The facilities are expected to generate revenue under the Delivering a Secure Sustainable Electricity System program, led by transmission operator EirGrid Group.
The projects are expected to be commissioned by the first quarter of 2021.
