The Moriah Hydro Corporation has filed an application for a preliminary permit for the initial study of the 240 MW Lyon Mountain Energy Storage Project in Clinton County, New York, USA.
The project consists of an upper reservoir with a storage capacity of 1,722 acre-feet and a lower reservoir with a storage capacity of 2,296 acre-feet. The project also features two water conveyance structures 15 feet in diameter and 2,000 feet long from the upper reservoir to the powerhouse, a water conveyance structure 15 feet in diameter and 2,000 feet long from the powerhouse to the lower reservoir, an 80-foot-wide by 300-foot-long by 40-foot-high underground powerhouse, a 40-foot-wide by 275-foot-long underground switchgear and equipment chamber, 100 turbine-generator units each rated at 2.4 MW, and a 1,000-foot long 115-kV transmission line from the powerhouse to an existing line.
