Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, known as Masdar, in partnership with Abu Dhabi advisory and development firm Tribe Infrastructure Group, through the joint venture company, Masdar Tribe Energy Holdings Ltd, has completed the acquisition of a 40% stake in the 29 MW East Rockingham waste-to-energy (WTE) plant in Australia.

The project is currently constructed in the industrial region of Rockingham, 40 km south of Perth. The facility will recover usable materials and/or energy from waste, diverting between 70-90% of waste (by volume) from landfills.

The project will convert approximately 300,000 tonnes of waste per year into baseload renewable energy, producing 28.96 MW of electricity at full capacity - enough to power 36,000 homes.

Acciona, infrastructure and renewable energy company based in Spain, will deliver the project in partnership with Hitachi Zosen Inova. Suez will lead the operations and maintenance (O&M) services for the facility under a 20-year contract.
