The Public Utilities Commission (PUC) of the State of Maine has approved the granting a power purchase agreement (PPA) for the 12 MW Aqua Ventus I floating offshore wind park in Monhegan Island.
The PPA was signed between the Central Maine Power Co utility and the developer of the project Maine Aqua Ventus I GP, LLC.
The project secured a US$40m in federal funding. The platform technology at the heart of Aqua Ventus, a concept dubbed VolturnUS, is a multi-patented, modular concrete semisubmersible design that will be outfitted with a 10-12 MW turbine for the pilot, replacing original plans for a two 6MW unit project.
The facility is expected to be commissioned by 2023.
