Lightsource BP has agreed to sell all the electricity it generates from 240 MW Bighorn solar PV project to Xcel Energy under a 20 year power purchase agreement. The solar park is expected to be operational in 2021.
The facility will be financed, built, owned and operated by Lightsource BP and will be installed on EVRAZ North America’s Rocky Mountain Steel property in Pueblo, Colorado. Lightsource BP and project investors will spend about US$250 million for the project and expected to create about 300 jobs.
The partners’ agreement requires final review by the Colorado Public Utilities Commission. Rates were not disclosed in the announcement, though the companies said the agreement provides EVRAZ with fixed rates through 2041.
The project is part of Xcel's goal to deliver 55 percent renewable energy to the grid by 2026 and reduce carbon emissions by 60 percent.
