Greengate Power plans to finance a 400 MW Travers solar photovoltaic project in Alberta on a merchant basis after receiving regulatory approval from the Alberta Utilities Commission.
The Travers solar, a CAD500 million(US$379.49 million) project, will be built on 1,900 hectares of grazing land near the village of Lomond in Vulcan County. The project will feature 1.5 million solar panels and will provide enough electricity to power 100,000 homes.
The construction of the project scheduled to start in 2020 and expected to be operational in 2021.
