Naturgy has announced that components of the first wind turbines that will configure the Merengue Wind Farm have begun to at the project site in Extremadura, western Spain.
The 15 turbines that will comprise the wind farm are being supplied by Siemens Gamesa. The G126 turbines have a unit power of 2.625 MW, a height of 84 meters from the base to the hub and a rotor diameter of 126 meters.
Once in operation, the wind farm will generate around 155 GWh per year, enough to meet the annual demand of 44,000 homes and offset 120,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually. It will be the first operational wind farm in the Extremadura region.
