The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has announced an agreement with two solar developers to build the largest solar installations in Tennessee and Alabama at 150 and 227 MW, respectively. The 377 MW output from these facilities is part of a historic agreement to support Facebook's data center in Huntsville, Alabama with 100% renewable energy.
This agreement is the result of the utility company's 2017 Request for Proposals, which called on the nation's top renewable energy developers to submit bids to supply large quantities of solar power. The successful bidders are First Solar, which will develop 227 MW in Colbert County, Alabama, and NextEra Energy Resources, with a 150 MW proposal located in Lincoln County, Tennessee.
Facebook has committed to support all of its data centers and offices with 100% renewable energy by 2020.
