El Paso Electric (EPE) is issuing an All-Source Request for Proposal (RFP) to obtain both short-term and long-term generating resources and renewable energy for its New Mexico customers by 2025.

The objective of the RFP tender is to obtain renewable energy to meet New Mexico’s increasing Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) and capacity required to meet projected New Mexico energy demand. The New Mexico RPS  requires EPE to meet 40% of its New Mexico jurisdictional sales with renewable energy resources beginning in 2025.

EPE is issuing this RFP to obtain the following short-term and long-term resources:

  • Resource to support short-term capacity need of 40 MW in 2022 growing to 90 MW in 2024. EPE
    is open to short-term PPA proposals to support the need between 2022-2024 timeframe;
  • Long-term capacity resource of approximately 90-110 MW online no later than May 1, 2025, that
    comply with the requirements of the REA and Rule 572; and
  •  Long-term renewable energy resource of approximately 175,000 MWh online by December 2024
    to meet the REA’s and Rule 572’s requirement of 40% by 2025

As part of New Mexico’s RPS, EPE will also need a long-term resource that will generate approximately 175,000 MWh per year of additional renewable energy by December 2024.

The deadline for the submission of proposals is on August 31, 2021. The tender information can be accessed on our business opportunity page here
