EDF Renewables has announced its plan to develop a 400 MW Liddesdale wind project in two areas of commercial forestry, namely Wauchope Forest and Newcastleton Forest, in the Scottish Borders region, in the UK. The initiative includes the installation of up to 80 wind turbines, a battery energy storage system, and a solar facility. EDF Renewables is submitting a scoping report for the proposed site to Scottish Borders Council.
The project aims to develop the wind farm collaboratively with the local community. As such, the company is initiating early engagement with local residents, community councils, local groups, and elected representatives. The project's development is still at an initial stage, with discussions ongoing. It seeks to promote renewable energy and meet the UK's target of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
