German wind turbine technology specialist Deutsche Windtechnik AG is installing an aircraft detection lighting system (ADLS) at the 111 MW Nordergrunde offshore wind farm project, the first of its kind in Germany.

The transponder-based ADSL solution that will be featured in the wind project was developed by Deutsche Windtechnik in cooperation with FUNKE Avionics. The transponder receiver module (TRM) that will be installed inside the turbine's nacelle is identical, but the antenna unit of the offshore system mounted on top of the turbine is made of corrossion-resistant materials.

The project has a total of 18 Senvion 6.2M 126 wind turbines that have been in operation since 2017. The retrofitting activities will start before the end of 2022.
