Malawi’s Electricity Generation Company (EGENCO) launched the construction of a 10 MW solar power plant in the Salima district.
China's Chint Electrical Company is the project contractor for the US$14 million initiative, anticipated to be finalized within 18 months. Power distribution to the national grid will be facilitated through the Nanjoka substation. An additional 10 MW capacity is slated for integration in a subsequent construction phase. The project will include a 2.5 MWh battery energy storage system. EGENCO has secured ample land for the installation of 50 MW of power at the Salima site.
