Qatar Energy has announced that the construction for 800 MW Al-Kharsaah Solar PV Power Plant (KSPP) located 80 km west of Doha in Qatar has been completed. The project is now connected to the national grid and ready to begin commercial operation. It can supply 10% of the country’s peak power consumption.
The solar facility is built over an area of 1,000 ha of land and features 2 million bifacial PV modules. It will avoid 26 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per year.
The project is a joint venture between QatarEnergy Renewable Solutions (60%), Marubeni (20.4%) and TotalEnergies (19.6%). The project also includes a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement between Siraj 1 and the power grid operator Kahramaa.
