BlueFloat plans to develop 1.4 GW offshore wind project in New Zealand

BlueFloat Energy and its consortium partners Energy Estate and Elemental Group have announced plans to develop the 1.4 GW Waikato offshore wind project in New Zealand.

The offshore wind farm will be constructed in the Pacific Ocean off the coasts of South Auckland and West Waikato, Aotearoa, requiring a multibillion-dollar investment. Phase 1 with 250 MW capacity will utilize fixed bottom technology while Phase 2 will install between 800 MW and 1,150 MW of turbines west or north of Phase 1 using floating foundations. Once operational, the project will provide enough electricity to power around 700,000 homes.

The partners are now undertaking feasibility studies and plans to commence construction before 2030.
