Nalcor Energy has announced that it has directed Astaldi to stop work on the Muskrat Falls hydropower project. Astaldi is the main contractor for the 824 MW project, but is allegedly failing to pay its workers.

Thus, Nalcor has directed the Canadian subsidiary of the Italian construction firm to stop working on the site, and is arranging for Astaldi's 500 workers on site to return home. The project is located at Muskrat Falls on the lower Churchill River, approximately 30 km west of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, eastern Canada-

Nalcor said this action will not affect ongoing work activities of other contractors on the site and their work will continue as planned. The project consists of two hydroelectric dams and a powerhouse.
