ALLETE Clean Energy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of ALLETE Inc. has announced the close of the approximately US$84 million sale of the 48 MW second phase of the Thunder Spirit wind farm in North Dakota (USA) to Montana-Dakota Utilities.
Montana-Dakota Utilities, a division of MDU Resources Group, owns and operates the first phase of Thunder Spirit, which was also built by ALLETE Clean Energy. The company exercised a purchase option on phase two included in the project development agreement in March 2018. The total installed capacity of the Thunder Spirit site is 155 MW.
The wind farm is located near Hettinger, North Dakota, about 100 miles southwest of Bismarck, and includes sixteen 3 MW Nordex turbines that will produce enough energy for about 15,000 homes. ALLETE Clean Energy qualified the project for federal renewable energy production tax credits.
