AES Corp has started the operation of the 100 MW/400 MWh Alamitos battery energy storage facility located in California, USA.
The project is located at the Alamitos Energy Center (AEC), which is currently being built, and a replacement for the existing AES Alamitos Generating Station.
The project features Advancion 5 batteries and control systems supplied by Fluence.
The facility will operate under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with power Southern California Edison.
