ACCIONA has been awarded the contract to construct the Western Renewables Link, a major new high-voltage transmission line in the state of Victoria, Australia. Together with its joint-venture partner Genus, ACCIONA will build approximately 190 km of 500 kV double-circuit transmission line from Bulgana in western Victoria to the Sydenham terminal station in north-west Melbourne. Once operational, this infrastructure will unlock more than 3,000 MW of new renewable generation capacity, enough to power about one million homes, by connecting large-scale wind and solar projects to the grid.
The award of the contract is subject to satisfying certain conditions and receiving all required state and federal approvals before construction can begin. This project reflects ACCIONA’s expanding role in facilitating Australia’s transition to a low-carbon future through critical electricity transmission development.
