67 MW Onshore Wind Farm Becomes Operational in the UK

Red Rock has announced that its 67 MW Benbrack Wind Farm is now generating electricity and delivering to the national grid, following its energisation earlier in September.

The project is currently permitted to generate up to 20 percent of the total site capacity (enough to operate up to three turbines at once) with the full 67.1MW of capacity subject to the completion of grid testing later this month. Red Rock and Vestas team are now in the final phase of commissioning and working to reach commercial operations as soon as possible.

Robbie Williamson, Benbrack Project Manager, said: “The energisation and commencement of generation is a significant key milestone for the wind farm and Red Rock as a business. The fact we are now delivering clean electricity to the grid is a positive contribution to net zero and the reason we have spent the last four years developing this project. We have faced some delays to get to this point, and we still have a phase of commissioning and testing to be done, but we are in the final stretch, and I look forward to celebrating with our team and wider stakeholders soon!”

Red Rock first broke ground on the wind farm in October 2022, following its acquisition of the project in late-stage development in early 2021. Benbrack will generate enough green energy to power the equivalent of 60,000 Scottish homes.
