Zambia prequalifies 11 for 100 MW solar projects

The Industrial Development Corporation of Zambia Ltd (IDC) announced in late December it has prequalified 11 teams for the development of 100 MW of solar power projects.

The tender process entails contracts to develop two 50-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) parks in Zambia’s Lusaka South - Multi Facility Economic Zone.

The projects will be the initial developments under Round 1 of the 600-MW Scaling Solar Programme. The World Bank’s International Finance Corp (IFC) is advising IDC on the first solar projects.

The projects will be built on separate sites and developed by different private sector firms.

The Request for Proposals (RfPs) bidding process will be issued in sometime in January 2016.

  • Africa Infrastructure Investment Fund 2 – Old Mutual Life Insurance Company & Cobra & CDE
  • Grupo T-Solar, SA
