Vleemo, the Belgium-based renewable energy company, has achieved financial close to develop a 57 MW wind farm in Antwerp city, Flanders, Belgium. The project will be located on the right bank of the Port of Antwerp.
The total project investment is estimated at €110 million (US$121 million). Project financing has been provided by Belfius Bank.
The project will be located on the right bank of the Port of Antwerp, which is Europe’s second-largest seaport and ranks among the world’s top twenty. The port stands at the upper end of the tidal estuary of the Scheldt.
The wind project comprises 19 wind turbines of 3 MW each with a tip height of nearly 200 m and a rotor diameter of 115 m. Enercon will supply the turbines for the project, which will deliver enough renewable energy for about 40,000 families.
We have recently reported that the European Investment Bank (EIB) was mulling providing project financing for the Norther offshore wind project in Belgian North Sea. The project involves the construction and operation of an offshore wind park 22 km from the Belgian Coast with an estimated capacity of up to 370 MW.
