Sri Lanka approves 1,040 MW hybrid renewables park

Sri Lanka’s Cabinet of Ministers has given the go-ahead for the development of a a 1040 MW hybrid wind and solar energy park in Pooneryn in the battle-scarred Northern Provinceo of Sri Lanka. The proposed facility will include 240 MW of wind and 800 MW of solar. 

The project is consistent with the Sri Lankan government's policy to add a considerable amount of electricity to national grid through renewable energy sources.

The Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA) has identified the northern regions of the country as a suitable area to build wind power and solar power plants. 

Under the proposal, the construction of the hybrid energy park will be built in three phases spanning two years.

The government expects to add a considerable amount of electricity to the national grid through renewable energy sources.
