Solatio Energia announced on Wednesday, April 24 that it plans to develop 1100 MW solar project in Brazil state Pernambuco. The project involves seven solar PV power plants in São José do Belmonte with 1100 MW capacity: Belmonte 1 and 2; Bridget and Bridget 2; Good Name 1; Nova Brígida and Nova Brígida 2. This complex will be the biggest solar project in Brasil.
The project will increase the volume of the energy generated by photovoltaic panels in Pernambuco by 10 times.
Pedro Vaquer, the president of Solatio said that Brazil state-owned banks will probably finance 65% of a total BRL 3.5 billion (US$ 889 million) while Spanish undisclosed companies will finance the rest.
The project will generate a thousand direct jobs during the construction of the photovoltaic complex and 100 more after completion.
The works are due to start in the first two months of 2021, with completion expected in 2022. After the park starts the operation and begins the generation of energy, there will be another 100 fixed work stations for maintenance services of the complex.
State Secretary of Economic Development Bruno Schwambach stressed that: ¨It's an important project in an area of the Central Hinterlands lacking in natural resources and infrastructure. The new venture will move both the economy of São José do Belmonte and that of other municipalities in the region.¨
The areas that will house the photovoltaic complex were leased from 97 sertanejo families living in precarious conditions. Solatio will, therefore, guarantee about BRL 4,000 (US$ 1,017) per month for each of these families during a period of 35 years.
