Siemens to study acquisition of Gamesa - reports

According to Spanish newspapers, Siemens AG has hired Deutsche Bank AG as financial advisor to help it assess a possible acquisition of Spanish wind turbine maker Gamesa.

According to the source, German group is in conversations with Spanish energy major Iberdrola, the largest shareholder in Gamesa with a 19.7% stake, to analyze the acquisition.

Siemens would like to position itself as the world market leader in the wind turbine original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) space. The deal would make Siemens larger than Denmark’s Vestas.

Gamesa’s current market capitalisation surpasses €4 billion.

Recently consulting firm Make Consulting said that Siemens is the largest wind turbine provider with a global market share of 10.8 %. Ont the other hand, BTM Consult placed Vestas in the top position with a 12.3 % market share. In both analysis, Gamesa is in the top 10 with a market share of 4% - 5%.

Gamesa is the market leader in China, México and India and fourth largest provider in the United states.
