The Government of Senegal has launched a request for poposals (RFP) for solar projects in Diourbel, Kaoack, and Fatick regions of the country, with a combined storage capacity of 100 MW.
The tender will be structured through the World Bank’s ‘Scaling Solar’ programme and the state has mandated the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to act as principal transaction advisor.
The initial phase of the tender process, announced on 24 August, 2016, attracted 28 participants, of which 13 were pre-qualified to receive the RFP and bid for the project. The deadline to submit proposals is February 5, 2018.
Successful bidders will be responsible for the design, financing, construction, commissioning and operation of the solar photovoltaic plants. They will be awarded Power Purchase Agreements with the Société d’Electricité du Sénégal (SENELEC), while the Ministry of Energy will issue the production licenses.
Africa50, the infrastructure fund for Africa, signed a development agreement with Senelec, Senegal’s electricity provider, for competitive selection of a strategic sponsor to develop a 120 MW combined cycle thermal power plant at Malicounda.
