Saba Electric Company N.V. (SEC), the sole supplier of electricity on the island of Saba, in the Dutch Caribbean, has launched a tender for a solar power plant of at least 1 MW and battery storage of at least 1.5 MWh. This will be SEC's second solar power plant, with the first coming online in 2018.
SEC is inviting interested parties to bid for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of the photovoltaic (PV) park and the battery storage system, and for the operation and maintenance (O&M) over 10 years.
The tender documentation will be available until 10 December 2017. The deadline for applications is 11 January 2018. Work under the EPC and battery contracts is to take place between March and June 2018.
SEC currently operates a power plant, which is located at the Fort Bay Harbor, in the south-west of the island, and an expansive transmission and distribution network throughout the island, providing electricity to approximately 1200 customers, two-thirds of the population. The addition of a battery storage system to the power plant is intended to achieve SEC's goal of transforming Saba into a sustainable island.
