Offtake agreement signed for 100 MW Hydrogen Project in Egypt

Scatec ASA in partnership with Fertiglobe, Orascom Construction has secured a green ammonia offtake agreement with Hintco for its Green Hydrogen project in Egypt.

In 2021, Scatec and its partners agreed to develop a 100 MW electrolyzer facility to produce renewable hydrogen, which will be used at Fertiglobe’s ammonia plant in Ain Sokhna, Egypt. The project, powered by 270 MW of solar and wind energy, aims to produce around 13,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen and up to 74,000 tonnes of renewable ammonia annually. Scatec, owning 52% of Egypt's Green Hydrogen, will lead the development and provide EPC, O&M, and asset management services in partnership with Orascom Construction and other key technology providers.

The next key steps for the project involve selecting the electrolyzer supplier and finalizing project financing with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), European Investment Bank (EIB), Germany's development finance institution and KfW subsidiary DEG, British International Investment (BII), and the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC). These institutions will offer competitive financing to support Egypt's first green hydrogen and ammonia project. The partners aim to achieve financial close in the first half of 2025.
