Peru's Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) has finally awarded Odebrecht's AC Energia the concession for the 600 MW Chadin 2 hydropower project.
The hydropower project is located in the Maranon River Basin between Peru's Cajamarca and Amazonas regions.
Peru's government, though the Energy Environmental Affairs Department of Peru's MEM, gave its approval to the environmental impact study conducted by developer Odebrecht Energia in February this year.
The Chadin 2 plant project involves the development of a 175-meter-high dam, creating a reservoir of more than 32 km². The project's powerhouse will include three 200 MW Francis-type hydro turbines.
The total project investment is estimated at US$819 million
Chadin 2 is part of the hydroelectric complex planned for the Marañon Medio River, which also includes the 825 MW Cumba 4 and the 915 MW La Balsa.
The project was one of the 15 hydropower projects, totaling 19,285 MW, prepared for an investment offering in 2008.
