Nixon Peabody grows energy practice with arrival of recognized project finance partner Ernest Chung

Nixon Peabody is expanding the firm’s energy and infrastructure project finance and development capabilities with the arrival of new partner Ernest W. Chung.  

Ernest, who will be based in the firm’s New York City office, advises financial institutions, sponsors, governments and multilateral institutions on the development and financing of domestic and international energy, infrastructure and natural resources projects.

He has significant experience with renewable energy, oil and gas, pipelines and other infrastructure transactions. In addition to his domestic work, Ernest frequently represents clients in emerging markets including Latin America, the countries of the former Soviet Union, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Scott M. Turner, partner and leader of Nixon Peabody’s Energy and Environment practice group, said:

“Ernie’s experience with domestic and cross-border deals such as major oil and gas projects, pipelines, renewable energy and transportation projects significantly enhances the capabilities of our energy and infrastructure finance teams.”

Ernest currently serves as chair of the Committee on Project Finance of the Association of the Bar of The City of New York. He has been noted as a leading practitioner in the projects area by Chambers USA and Chambers Global.

Active in pro bono and community matters, Ernest led a team under the auspices of the American Bar Association and the United Nations Development Program, which advised on the drafting of a comprehensive new minerals law for Afghanistan. He also served on the executive committee of the Business Advisory Council for the Greater Tumen Initiative, a multilateral organization focused on the development of the Northeast Asian region. 

Ernest most recently practiced with Blank Rome LLP and prior to that was a partner at Allen & Overy LLP. He earned a J.D. from Harvard Law School and an A.B.,magna cum laude, in social studies from Harvard College.
