The Ministry of Electricity and Energy of Myanmar has closed its solar tender of up to 1 GW capacity after announcing the winners with bids ranging from US$0.0348/kWh to US$0.051/kWh.
The Chinese inverter maker Sungrow and China Machinery Engineering Corp. (CMEC) have secured nine and eight projects, respectively; the consortium of State Power Investment Corporation Limited (SPIC) of China and a local company Khaing Long Gems has secured four projects; Longi, GGL Systems, and groups led by German developer ib vogt and Myanmar’s Gold Energy have also secured projects.
The tender comprises the implementation of 1.06 GW of ground-mounted solar power projects from independent power producers (IPP) on a build-operate-own (BOO) basis.
The selected independent power producers will be awarded 20-year power purchase agreements (PPA). It is expected that the selected developers will sign the 20-year PPA within the next 150 days.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has signed a loan equivalent of up with US$235 million to B.Grimm Power Public Company Limited, one of the largest power producers in Thailand, to develop and enhance renewable energy capacity in member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
