Milbank adds two leading oil & gas lawyers to its Projects and Energy Practice in London

Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy has added two oil & gas and project finance lawyers to its Projects and Energy Practice as partners in the London office.

The two new partners are Matthew Hagopian and Manzer Ijaz. They have a particular focus on oil & gas transactions, with a notable emphasis on liquefied natural gas projects. They will become an active part of Milbank’s top-ranked global projects and energy group, which advises on energy, transportation and infrastructure financings worldwide.

The two lawyers were partners in Linklaters’ Energy and Projects Group since 1999.

Messrs. Hagopian and Ijaz have advised on large energy-based financings and transactions globally, involving major oil and gas-producing facilities, as well as energy logistics, transportation and infrastructure projects. They have also handled financings related to large power projects. Their experience spans projects in Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, North America, Asia and the South Pacific.

Milbank Chairman Scott Edelman stated:

“The energy sector is going through significant transition and we are committed to supporting our clients as they address change. The broad range of experience Matthew Hagopian and Manzer Ijaz bring to Milbank will enhance our advice to clients on their acquisitions and joint ventures, as well as development efforts, financings and restructurings in the sector. We are particularly pleased they are joining us in London, as we continue to grow our English law practice and our capability to serve clients across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.”

Mr. Hagopian commented:

“We have worked together with Milbank lawyers on a number of great oil, gas and power projects over the past fifteen years and look forward to growing our practice with the support of Milbank’s global network and close relations with leading energy-sector companies, equity investors and lenders worldwide.”

Mr. Ijaz added:

“I am very pleased to be joining Milbank’s outstanding energy and projects team and continuing to work on some of the most innovative and complex transactions in the world.”
