Marubeni began commercial operation of the 479 MW Akita Noshiro Port Offshore Wind Farm in Akita Port and Noshiro Port, in Akita Prefecture, Japan. The facilities are composed of 38 V117-4.2 MW turbines in total that supply the equivalent of approximately 330,000 Japanese households.
The project consists of an offshore wind farm with a bottom fixed foundation, an onshore substation, and transmission lines. A special purpose company called Akita Offshore Wind Corporation (AOW) was established on a commercial basis by OBAYASHI CORPORATION; Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc.; Cosmo Eco Power Co., Ltd.; The Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc.; Chubu Electric Power Co., Ltd.; The Akita Bank, Ltd.; Ohmori Co., Ltd.; Sawakigumi Corporation; Kyowa Oil Co., Ltd.; Katokensetsu. Co. Ltd.; Kanpu Co., Ltd.; and Sankyo Co., Ltd.
AOW intends to operate and maintain the Offshore Wind Farm for 20 years from its Noshiro Port base.
