Laidlaw Capital Group acquires Veja Mate offshore wind farm project

Laidlaw Capital Group has completed the acquisition of Germany's Veja Mate offshore wind farm from the BARD Group.

The Veja Mate offshore wind farm will consist of up to 72 turbines on an area of 50 square kilometres. The project will have a total capacity of 400 MW. The offshore wind farm is located in the north Sea.

The wind farm will be connected to the BorWin2 grid connection which has a 800 MW transmission capacity and is located northwest of the island of Borkum. The grid connection was developed by Siemens.

A team from CMS Hasche Sigle's Hamburg office led by partners Dr Christian von Lenthe (Corporate) and Dr Holger Kraft (Energy) negotiated the acquisition on behalf of the Laidlaw Capital Group and provided legal support.

The offshore wind farm is the sister project to BARD Offshore 1 and is located in the immediate vicinity. The German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) granted planning approval for Veja Mate on August 31 2009. The wind farm will border BARD Offshore 1 to the western side.
