Invenergy signs PPAs for Texas wind farm

Invenergy has signed a 125 MW wind power purchase agreement (PPA) with Owens Corning to provide the insulation, roofing, and fiberglass manufacturer with renewable energy supporting their new corporate sustainability goals.

Invenergy today also announced that it has signed a 100 MW wind power purchase agreement (PPA) with Equinix, Inc. to provide the global interconnection and data center company with renewable energy to help support all of its data centers across North America.

Invenergy’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing Craig Gordon, said:

“Over the last few years there has been a seismic shift in the way corporate customers like Owens Corning have thought about the value proposition of renewable energy. Not only is it good for the environment, it’s good for the bottom line. By acting now, these customers are taking advantage of extremely competitive long-term wind energy pricing, as well as facilitating the transition to a sustainable and clean energy economy.”

Last month Owens Corning announced more ambitious goals to reduce greenhouse gas and toxic air emissions as well as new renewable energy initiatives that will continue to expand the company’s impact through sustainability.

When complete, Invenergy’s Wake Wind Energy Facility, located in Texas, will provide Owens Corning with an equivalent amount of carbon-free electricity as would be used to power more than 32,000 U.S. homes per year. The agreement will also help Owens Corning support the wind power industry, a market to which the company supplies high performance glass fiber reinforcements for wind turbine blades.

Owens Corning Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer Frank O'Brien-Bernini, said:

“Owens Corning has a long history of delivering energy efficiency improvements through our products and in our operations. Our ambitious and impactful greenhouse gas reduction goal is being made more achievable by collaborating with great partners, like Invenergy, to execute large scale wind energy agreements like this.”
