Gaelectric appoints Barry Gavin as CEO

Gaelectric, a company that develops and operates renewable energy projects in wind, bioenergy, and solar, has announced the appointment of Barry Gavin as Chief Executive Officer. 

Barry was Gaelectric’s Chief Operating Officer and prior to this, its Chief Financial Officer. He takes over as Group CEO from Brendan McGrath.

Barry Gavin is a founding shareholder of Gaelectric and has held senior executive positions as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer. Prior to his work with Gaelectric, Barry held a number of senior positions in commercial and financial functions in a number of industries. He is a Chartered Management Accountant.

Commenting, Ciaran O’Brien, Chairman of the Board of Gaelectric Holdings plc, said: 

“We are delighted to appoint Barry as Group CEO. In his previous executive roles, and from his position on the Board, Barry has been central to the development of Gaelectric’s businesses from its early beginnings as a wind farm developer through the growth and rollout of its wind portfolio, and in establishing strong positions in related renewable energy businesses including energy storage, bioenergy, solar, and energy trading and markets services. Barry will lead a strong team of engineering, finance and technical professionals in Gaelectric’s Dublin, Belfast, Manchester and Chicago offices.”

“Barry takes over as CEO from Brendan McGrath, a founding shareholder and CEO for the last 12 years, who has made an enormous contribution to Gaelectric, and as a leader and vocal advocate for the renewable energy sector on these islands. His strategic vision and guidance to the Gaelectric Board and his colleagues have been invaluable. Brendan will be continuing his involvement with Gaelectric in a number of special project areas."
