Engie has confirmed the investment in a pair of solar projects totaling 553 MW it plans to develop in Mexican state of Tlaxcala. Specifically, the company will initially invest US$183 million in 253 MW Nueva Xcala solar farm to be installed in the city of Calpulalpan and 300 MW Angel 2 PV project in Tlaxco.
The 253 MW Nueva Xcala solar photovoltaic park will be built in about 352 hectares of land in Calpulalpan City. The facility will use 734,860 photovoltaic polycrystalline modules of 345 Wp each, 72 inverters of 3.34 MW. It is expected to generate electricity enough to supply to about 260,000 homes and offset around 300,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
On a meeting between Engie and French and Mexican officials, the governor of Tlaxcala state said that Engie will have the full support of the Tlaxcala state in facilitating the solar projects. The state endorsed the vision to consolidate the development of clean energy projects in Tlaxcala to take advantage of the potential it presents in this sector, as well as the competitive advantages of its geographical location and connectivity with the center of the country.
Canadian Solar Inc. has sold 49% interest in three solar photovoltaic projects in Mexico totaling 370 MWp (294 MWac) to Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) and Sprott Korea, a leading fund manager.
