Enel Green Power has announced that two of its projects in the USA have come into operation: the first 252 MW phase of 497 MW Roadrunner solar PV project in Upton County, Texas and 66 MW Whitney Hill wind project in Logan County, Illinois.
With this Enel Green Power has launched almost 800 MW of new energy in the United States, with 1 GW of renewable energy currently under construction in 6 sustainable energy projects.
The construction of the 497 MW Roadrunner plant, which once completed will be the largest solar power plant in Texas, began in February 2019. When it is fully operational, by the end of 2020, the solar park will be able to generate about 1200 GWh per year, avoiding the emission of more than 785,000 tons of CO 2 per year.
In addition, thanks to two Power Purchase Agreements (PPA), we will sell energy from a portion of 65 MW to Mondelēz Internacional, in addition to that coming from another 70 MW to Clorox Company.
Whitney Hill, meanwhile, has an installed capacity of 66 MW and is expected to generate 246 GWh of sustainable energy per year, thus avoiding the emission of 161,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. Whitney Hill is located right next to another Enel Green Power plant, the 185 MW wind farm of HillTopper, which has been operational since December 2018. Both wind farms were designed by Swift Current Energy.
The head of Enel Green Power in North America Georgios Papadimitriou said: “This milestone underscores the ability of Enel Green Power to develop, build and manage projects in different parts of the United States using different technologies. In the United States, we continue to take advantage of growth opportunities thanks to the strong demand for sustainable energy from industry and services, accelerating the transition to a decarbonized economy.”
Bright Canyon has acquired ownership interests in two Tenaska-developed wind projects in USA. The transaction includes the purchase of indirect minority interests in Tenaska Clear Creek Wind, LLC, owner of 242 MW Tenaska Clear Creek Energy Center in Missouri, and Nobles 2 Power Partners, owner of the 250 MW Nobles 2 wind farm in Minnesota. Both projects are under construction and anticipated to be fully operational in 2020.
