Elecnor has signed a Turnkey contract, through a 50% joint venture with the Australian group Clough, to build TransGrid's EnergyConnect project, comprising 700 kilometers of high voltage lines and 4 substations, for a total amount of EUR917 million (US$1.1 billion).
EnergyConnect will be the largest electricity interconnection grid built to date in the national electricity market and will accelerate Australia's energy transition by supplying subscribers with more electricity produced from electricity sources. renewable energy. The project will also help reduce one million tonnes of carbon footprint each year, helping to meet Australia's climate change targets. The EnergyConnect project will build critical electricity transmission infrastructure that will save New South Wales customers AUD180 million (USD138.2 million) per year and create 1,500 new construction jobs in New South Wales.
TransGrid's EnergyConnect project is currently building the main infrastructure for the future renewable energy production area located in southwest New South Wales, allowing the connection of 4,950 MW of additional generation capacity.
Construction of the project in the Western New South Wales area is expected to begin in late 2021 with commissioning to take place in 2023.
