El Salvador awards 170 MW of solar and wind projects

El Savador National Energy Council has awarded about 170 MW of solar and wind power supply contracts with a 20-year term.

To be more precise, four solar projects with a total capacity of 119.9 MW has been awarded to Capella Solar (2x50 MW), Sonsonate Energia (10 MW) and Asocio Ecosolar (9.9 MW). Tracia Network will be in charge of constructing the first wind farm in the country, with a total capacity of 50 MW.

Once completed, the plants will supply enough electricity to power 288,830 local households.

The prices for the four solar projects varied from US$49.55/MWh to US$67.24/MWh. In the auction, the ceiling price was of US$113.24/MWh. The only one wind power was sold at US$98.78/MWh compared to a ceiling price of US$105.30/MWh.

The contracts between the government and the companies are expected to be sign before March 27, 2017.
