E.ON has completed an utility-scale solar project in the United States. Maricopa West, a 28 megawatt photovoltaic farm in Kern County in southern California, is now fully operational.
A tracking system ensures that its 89,000 panels are always oriented toward the sun. Maricopa West was completed ahead of schedule and under its budget of roughly €50 million (US$52.9 million).
With regard to the strategy E.ON plans to develop more major solar projects in the United States through E.ON Solar, its San Francisco-based subsidiary. E.ON has completed several such projects in Arizona. Maricopa West is the second solar farm it has built in California.
Canadian Solar Inc. has announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Recurrent Energy, has closed a debt facility for the 100 MW Astoria solar power project, currently under construction in California.
