Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions has announced the start of construction for the 250 MW Pisgah Ridge photovoltaic solar plant in Navarro, Texas.
The engineering and construction of the project are implemented by Moss, while Duke Energy owns and operates the plant. During the construction phase, the project will employ up to 300 workers. The commercial operation is expected by the end of 2022. PV solar plant will produce enough energy to power around 63,000 homes in the state.
Duke Energy has signed three virtual power purchase agreements (VPPA) for the Pisgah Ridge project. One of them is with Charles River Laboratories International, a pharmaceutical company, for 102 MW of the solar farm for a period of 15 years. Charles River was advised on the VPPA by Schneider Electric. Two extra agreements were signed with other corporations for the remaining 148 MW for a 15-year period.
Chris Fallon, president of Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions, said “This project demonstrates how we can address the community’s need for clean energy resources while providing unique sustainability solutions for customers like Charles River.”
